This article is an overview of the challenges and actions for solutions that emerged in the six editions of the Summer Olympic Games that were held in the first two decades of the 21st century. In this period, there were social, economic, and political changes with typical characteristics (Zeitgeist) that influenced the conflict-resolution actions undertaken by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and its stakeholders in the face of the crises and impasses regarding the management of Olympic mega events. In these conditions, this article describes and analyses relevant problems and opportunities for solutions currently identified as timely and relevant for the Olympics. The end of the article contains an analysis of Olympic Agenda 2020+5 as a major reference for IOC interventions and its role as a roadmap for building the future of the Olympic Games.
