Canadian media representations of para-athletes at the 2016 Paralympic Games / Erin Pearson, Laura Misener
The broadcasting of the Games offers a potential social catalyst which can reproduce, reinforce and naturalize dominant understanding about disability within Canadian society. The purpose of this study was to examine a specific example of the Canadian media coverage of the 2016 Paralympic Games to consider how the approach challenged and reinforced dominant discourses, and the interplay between impairment, ableism and gender within Canadian society.
