What is the owl network ?
Created in 2016 by the IOC Olympic Studies Centre (OSC), the Olympic World Library (OWL) is simultaneously a library catalogue, an information portal and a search engine specialising in literature on the Olympic Movement and the Olympic Games. The OWL Network is a new initiative aimed at bringing together Olympic-related library collections from various institutions, with the goal of making Olympic and sports-related literature easily accessible. Via the OWL, users can freely access the bibliographic descriptions and digital documents of all the partners.
The OSC manages and oversees the technical infrastructure of the library management system together with its service provider, Archimed, and sets the general documentation rules for the library collections.
Each partner is responsible for documenting and managing its own collection, and handling the access and loan requests from its users.
In May 2023 the OSC welcomed the Comité Olímpico Español as the Network’s first partner. More partners will be joining in the future, bringing more collections in more languages to the benefit of all users.
