The Tokyo Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games established the gender equality promotion team in February 2021, and has been working to promote gender equality as one of the elements of the “Unity in diversity” vision for the Games. The Tokyo 2020 Games were the most gender balanced Games ever with 48 per cent female athletes. They were recognized by UN Women as one of the gender equality highlight of 2021. In this report, the Tokyo Organising Committee looks back at the 2020’s efforts to promote gender equality, with reference to the “diversity and inclusion” initiatives it has pursued, and describes the achievements and remaining challenges.
