Brazil's participation in the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin : internal conflicts among groups / Janice Zarpellon Mazo... [et al.]
The research investigates Brazil’s participation in the 1936 Olympic Games, in particular the case of Brazilian rower Fritz Richter, who did not take part in rowing competitions in Berlin, even though he was part of the delegation organized by the Brazilian Confederation of Sports. The information about Brazil’s participation came from newspaper and magazine reports. The interpretation of the sources revealed that the decision about participating in the Olympics was marked by conflicts that ended up with two delegations representing the country in the event. This culminated in the selection of Brazilian athletes in German territory. In that context, there were other conflicts, not only during the Brazilian delegations’ stay in Berlin but also when they returned to Brazil.
