Sport and foreign policy in a globalizing world / ed. by Steven J. Jackson... [et al.]
Edited by Routledge - 2009
The overall aim of this compilation is to highlight the many ways in which sport and foreign policy are converging within an increasingly globalized world. Our collection draws upon a wide range of international experts including an interdisciplinary group of scholars, an investigative journalist and a Special Adviser to the UN Secretary-General on Sport for Development and Peace. From a diversity of perspectives they discuss, debate and reflect upon the role and significance of sport and foreign policy in a globalizing world. We begin our analysis by examining the United Nations' most recent efforts to use sport to achieve a wide range of diplomatic goals that converge on development and peace. Ingrid Beutler, who works closely with the Special Adviser to the UN Secretary-General on Sport for Development and Peace, outlines the role of sport and physical education as essential tools to meet these goals.
