Olympism : from Coubertin to the present day / The Olympic Studies Centre

The Olympic Studies Centre

Edited by The Olympic Studies Centre - 2024

The aim of this document, which comprises four different chapters, is to provide an understanding of what the concept of modern Olympism entails. The first chapter describes how Coubertin envisaged Olympism and how he outlined his ideas in his writings. The second chapter looks at how the concept has evolved in the Olympic Charter, which governs the organisation, action and operation of the Olympic Movement. The third presents an overview of the main stakeholders of modern Olympism and their fields of activity today. The final chapter breaks down some definitions of Olympism, as proposed in several academic works. Drawing on a range of resources, the document takes an in-depth look at the subject and explores related areas such as Olympic education and the fundamental values of Olympism.
