This book is the printed version of a dissertation written by Christian Gilliéron for the History Section of the Faculty of Arts at the University of Lausanne, under the supervision of Professor François Jequier, and presented at the March 1992 session. This study covers an essential part of the centenary history of the Olympic Movement: that of the establishment of Olympism in Lausanne, which it made its capital, from its genesis to the death of Pierre de Coubertin.
