The 1989 International Olympic Committee (IOC) World Congress of Sports Sciences was initiated by the IOC Medical Commission. Leading sports science experts from around the world gathered to discuss and share information and ideas on basic and applied research related to performance at the Olympic competition level. The following proceedings represent a compilation of five-page "mini-papers" for invited and keynote addresses, and one- and two-page abstracts for free communications and poster presentations.
