Firek, Wiesław

Edited by [s.n.] - 2015

The main objective of the book was to systematize Pierre de Coubertin's thoughts and ideas and present them in a synthetic form. This was accompanied by the presentation of the discussions found on hte pages of magazines and books about the Olympic in Poland, in the world, and on the original assumptions of Olympism. The study focused mainly on philosophical issues and involved the imposition of a philosophical structure and its conceptual apparatus to the Coubertin's views. From the philosophical perspectives, conscious or unconscious inspirations underlying modern Olympism were presented. An attempt was made to reconstruct human philosophy and social philosophy by presenting Olympism in a broader cultural and social background in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century. Olympism has also been described in the phase of creation and the gradual matuzring of its main ideas. The thesis ends with a chapter on, contemporary to Coubertin, assessment of the Olympic ideology.
