As the term suggests, biomechanics involves a study of the structure and function of the human body using mechanics. Biomechanics of tennis therefore deals with the mechanical basis of tennis, with particular emphasis on the techniques used in stroke production. The criterion measure in tennis, that is successful performance in an injury-free environment, makes it imperative that coaches and medical/paramedical personnel have an understanding of biomechanics.
