Marking the Olympic year and the 40th anniversary of Greek-Chinese diplomatic relations, the Consulate General of Greece in Shanghai launched in 2012 an essay competition on the "Olympic Spirit and its relevance in the harmonious development of today's society". The competition, jointly organized with the Shanghai Municipal Government and the Municipal Governments of Nanjing, Nanchang, Hefei, Hang Zhou and Jinan, was open to students from Special Needs High Shools in the six cities. A great number of students took part in the competition and five out of them were jointly selected by the Consulate General.
