Le dopage / Nicolas Guillon, Gérard Nicolet

Guillon, Nicolas | Nicolet, Gérard

Edited by Flammarion - 2000

Tour de France 1998: the "Festina affair" broke and shed light on the seriousness of the disease eating away at cycling. Doping was born with competition, but if it becomes inevitable, the values of sport are condemned. For the authors, the athlete is not an isolated being, but the last link in a chain: the chain of performance. A number of players have a direct influence on an athlete's behaviour, upstream of both success and failure. How can we combat doping? By removing it from an established system that has proved ineffective for thirty years. Doping is a social problem, and it is up to society to establish new rules of the game, on a national scale.
