Philosophie du sport : Olympisme et Paralympisme / dir. Bernard Andrieu... [et al.]

Andrieu, Bernard

Edited by Vrin - 2024

This anthology is not an apology for Olympism. From the birth of the philosophy of sport at the end of the nineteenth century to the actuality of Olympic and Paralympic practices, it shows how a way of thinking in crisis has been obliged to take into account the existence of bodies other than athletic and socially normalised bodies, other forms of play open to plenitude and emancipation. At the time of the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, the important thing is no longer just to take part: Olympism and Paralympism must promote a philosophy of inclusiveness, effort and sharing. Since 2021, the International Olympic Committee has added a fourth term, Communiter, to the Olympic motto Citius, Altius, Fortius: "Faster, higher, stronger - together".
