A ‘private’ event, owned by an association under Swiss law, the Olympic and Paralympic Games take place on the territory of a sovereign state, which is involved and committed to its organisation alongside other public bodies and private organisations. The aim of this book is to examine the origin and content of the rules of public law, derived in particular from the two Olympic laws, applicable to the preparation and organisation of this event. Should we speak of a special law, a law of exception or a law specific to the Games? Are the legal measures and experiments intended to leave a ‘legal legacy’ when they become part of ordinary law?
