This book is composed of two parts, the first is a reprint of the book "History and philosophy of Olympism" by Conrado Durántez, published in 2000. It deals with the origin of the Games in Olympia, the ideology of Pierre de Coubertin, the Olympic Movement, its structure, symbols and emblems, and the pedagogy of Olympism. It also contains brief reviews on the modern Olympic Games of summer (from Athens 1896 to Beijing 2008) and winter (from Chamonix 1924 to Torino 2006). The second part is an appendix entitled "Asturias and Olympism", authored by Agustín Antuña Suárez, which details the most important contributions made by the Principality of Asturias to the Olympic Movement.
