Integrity in sport and in the Olympic Movement / Michael John McNamee
Edited by The Olympic Studies Centre - 2024
Recent years have witnessed the meteoric rise of what has been called the sport integrity industry. The concept, however, is imprecisely defined and very widely interpreted. This essay addresses the heterogeneity of this concept by arguing that it encompasses five key issues: anti-doping; governance; equality, inclusion, and diversity; manipulation of sport competition; and safe sport. It also argues that these issues are reflected in three interrelated concepts of sport integrity: personal; competition; and institutional.
